Although this album (Third) came out a while back, I didn't give it a second thought - Trip Hop is so boring - It's like listening to your Mum's record collection. Kenny had it on in the studio yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised by this track . I'm a sucker for a song with a skronking trumpet, even if it's just been cut and pasted into the song like a little rap in a pop song. The album is all pretty listenable. Kind of like a light jazzy pop album. Sounds like I'm damning it with faint praise, but I'll probably buy it. Wednesday, 18 February 2009

Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman
From the Ravenous Soundtrack. Boyd's Journey is my favorite. Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman - who'd have thought. There are some nice songs so it's worth hunting down. I'll check out the movie too: a comedy about cannibals.

Free The Robots
We spent a good amount of our trip around New England trying to find a radio station that didn't play lame rock or 80s tunes (we heard a lot of lame 80s rock). As a consequence we mostly listened to NPR. Diary was the exception. We happened upon the station that played it, and then lost it within the space of a few songs. Oh well.
It reminds me of all those mid 90s albums from DJ Shadow et al. Tres pleasant.
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World from the album Ka'Ano'i

Makes me think of Gideon -although he would have just laughed at it.

Jesus Christ Superstar
This song is a cover of the second best song on the Jesus Christ Superstar album. It's covered by Laibach. The original is totally Romantic (with a capital R) and made even more so by this version.
This is the best song:
What a voice!

Nude
Beautiful cover of a Radiohead song by this guy.
It's been posted on just about every blog there is, but just in case you didn't see/hear it I've posted it for you here. I cut out the boring intro bit (which is a nerdy joke) and just left the song.
I think it's better if you listen to the song first before you watch the video, because the way it is made is fascinating, but shouldn't eclipse the fact that it's an amazing interpretation.

The Last Shadow Puppets

The Age Of The Understatement
It's the singer from The Arctic Monkeys and another guy from The Rascals (who I haven't heard)
I haven't been listening to much music recently, which has made my infrequent posts here almost dry up completely. This is pretty nice and I just came across it today. I'm trying to convert another file to mp3 format so that I can post that too. Wish me luck.

Don Cherry
Orient. From the album Orient. I've been wanting to post this beauty for ages, but the place where I store the mp3s won't take large files. I opened a skydrive acct to upload this. It's 35megs worth of music, but worth the wait.
Also, one of the best album covers ever..
